Fascinating post from the Brighton-Past group on Facebook by Andy Crook.

The open group is a useful source of information for amenity societies across the city that want to compare notes with ‘then and now scenarios’.

The postcard appears to date from Edwardian times, perhaps about 1910?

What is most interesting about the postcard is buried in the caption text, indicating that ‘the average daily number of In-patients is 178′.

A comment underneath the image puts the issue in context ‘Only 178 In-patients a day. More like that per hour now’.
