Brighton and Hove City Council updates: On Friday 25 April damage to the A259/King’s Road was discovered. As a result structural engineers will be working over the weekend to assess the extent of the problem which seems to have been caused by historic alterations to premises in the arches.

Changes around West Street

We’re working as swiftly as possible with the Police and key partners to ensure public safety and to keep the traffic moving as smoothly as possible. A contra flow system is now in place between Middle Street and West Street, this means the following changes are in place:

Drivers travelling eastbound on the A259 can turn North up West Street
Drivers travelling westbound on the A259 cannot turn up West Street
On West Street the road down from the clock tower is closed
You can use Cannon Place to access Churchill Square car parks
Regency car park is available as usual

March on Sunday

On Sunday 27 April there is a march that was due to start at the junction of West Street and the A259, where the fault in the road has been found. This march will now start at the A259 junction with Middle Street. More information about this is available on the Sussex Police website.
